This project tested what were at the time new ADU laws in California. The placement of an ADU within a front yard setback was novel, and while many communities have outlawed the practice, it is an example of what can be accomplished with progressive zoning regulations. The unit contains 4 bedrooms and 3 baths in a highly efficient layout that maximizes density while still maintaining important qualities like access to views, light and air. The project also fosters a connection to nature and promotes a sense of community by integrating into the larger building and surrounding neighborhood.
