The Hannah Street House is part of a design / build speculative real estate development in the Dogtown neighborhood of West Oakland, CA. The design focuses on ‘cache’, a play on words relating to spec development and the design concept, where the interior space and façade are slightly obscured by a new exterior screen and stair. Once beyond this initial element, the space was opened up, providing a continuity that was previously nonexistent. Visibility and circulation run directly through the house, connecting the user to a large rear yard. The spaces, indoor and out, are connected through material and form.
