58th Shattuck

DESCRIPTION:
Two dilapidated duplexes existed on this site, and the design task was to convert them from undistinguished boxes into something more dynamic. The majority of the front duplexes remained in tact, where the rear units were modified to increase footage by occupying a lower level that acted primarily as storage. Standard, clear grain plywood sheets were stained and applied to the existing structure to provide a foil to the existing redwood siding, and windows received projections to help give depth to the facade. Floor plans were opened up and connected to provide continuous space.
