DESCRIPTION:
This 16 macro-unit project takes an existing warehouse shell as its site. The new interior reconfiguration begins by removing and replacing floors to create additional space and new courtyards at the perimeter of the existing building to allow for light, air, and access. The existing space and structure act as collaborators, interacting with the design of the new space to create unique, dynamic, and diverse volumes. The new housing will add high density rental space to Oakland, a city in the midst of a housing crisis.
