1888 MLK

This project implements 88 prefab units, of which 9 are moderate income, to achieve a high density of efficient residential studios. The design strategy was to treat the modules as responsive elements that could be adjusted to fit the context. Operations included orienting to increase density, to conform to unique property configurations, and to maximize light and views. The resulting form avoids the encumbrance of overt modular expression. Additional elements such as articulation of the entrance and roofline allow further contextual responsiveness.
