The 55th Street project is another example of increased urban density through mini lot development. The Victorian to the front of the lot provides the requisite ‘neighborhood continuity’, whereas the house to the rear responds to the context in a less literal way. A wood screen element provides privacy between the units. This element continues to the interior of the project, linking inside and out. The butterfly roof was designed to follow the programmatic needs of the space, opening to stairs and bedrooms, while simultaneously providing overhangs and shade where needed.
