Single Family Residential

The project is one of several that increase density in Berkeley by building a second unit on a lot with a single existing home. The residence was conceived as a shrink wrapped exterior over a programmed circulation and series of interior volumes. The program is clearly articulated on the exterior of the building, and enhanced through variation in volume and material. The stair becomes a primary focus in this regard, providing a means of expression on the exterior, and focusing the volumes of space on the interior.
